Talk about a great ending to an outstanding story. The Berlin Sabres (Mite Tier 3) began hockey practice back in September 2008, 2 nights a week, some of the kids practiced on Mondays also! They worked hard & learned something at every practice. Little by little they grew as a team, grew stronger and got alot better. They had an outstanding regular year in the Granite State League which lead up to the State of NH Championship Tournament. Entering the tournament in the 2 spot they made it to the finals (The didn't lose a game all Tournament) and won the Championship game.
By doing so they were State of NH Champions (Granite State Champions) in Tier 3. They received a trophy and had a parade & celebration as they entered the city of Berlin, NH.
To top it all off the Berlin Mites played a game at the Verizon Center located in Manchester, NH in front of many family & friends. The Manchester Monarch organization was terrific and treated the kids like NHL players. The organization was also fantastic hosting all of the family & friends in attendance.
After their game (The Sabres won 5-1) The team was rewarded with State Championship jackets! We all enjoyed meal and a brief stint at a hotel pool. The team was off to the Verizon Center to watch The Monarchs vs. the Sharks. Great seats & a great time was had by all. The kids had a blast! It gets better...
During the 1st. intermission (The kids had no idea) we were asked to meet in the lobby. We gathered the team and we told the kids what we knew all along...they were gonna be honored with several other teams who won a State Championship this year on the ice for a Parade of Champions! We got down to ice level and the team was announced over the sound system and the place roared! the team walked on the ice to our spot as all the teams were announced. The place was rockin'. It was a great night. I wanted to thank the Monarch Organization, All the parents of the Berlin Sabres, The Berlin Sabres, The coaches and the Berlin Organization. Special thanks too: Bobby, Jon, Moe, Joe, Mark, Donny. Christy, Tammy, Jess, Rachel, Joy, Mike C, Scott, PI and all of you who make Berlin hockey so much fun for the children & adults. I look forward to next year!
Sincerely,
Coach Matt Martel

Hope you and your team had a great time Matt. The kids did well and they should all be proud of themselves.
